Consistency is Key

If there’s anything that I’ve learned in my first 2 years in business, it’s that consistency is key. I have been so fortunate to discover my style early on in my career and have been able to build a brand that effectively communicates it. While I like to think that it was my marketing degree that has helped me brand my business, I can say with confidence that it was my curiosity, my love for learning and my passion for this business that has brought me to where I am today.

When you think about having consistency in your business, there are three different areas that you need to make sure you pay attention to:

  1. Your editing style
  2. Your voice
  3. Your client experience

Your images are the face of your business. You need to have high quality images to be competitive in this industry, and you need to be able to produce them consistently. Do you have a distinct editing style? Can you articulate your style to someone else? Can your style be achieved in every picture, no matter the lighting circumstance or location? I have found it to be very helpful to explain my editing process to someone else. When I do that, I explain the basics adjustments that I apply to every picture, and then further describe what I like in photos and what I don’t like in photos. Having consistently edited images is so incredibly important for your clients. They need to be confident that the images they receive will look similar to what they see in your portfolio.

Once you’ve discovered your editing style, think about a few words that represent it. My three brand words are joyful, vibrant and genuine. When you see a Kelsie Lynn Photography image, those words should come to mind in every single one. Not only should those words describe your images, but they should also describe your brand. It wouldn’t make sense for me to have bright and vibrant images with a brand that is reaching an audience in love with dark, moody edits. That makes no sense, right? Once you’ve picked your 3 words, consistently use them in your branding as a basis for your online “voice.”

Finally, your experience needs to be consistent. If you are effectively and consistently communicating your brand, then you need to consistently show up in your experience. As your business grows, so will your experience. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t still show up consistently throughout your client’s experience. This can be approached in a variety of ways: consistently showing up online (social media, blog, etc.), replying to emails in a timely manner, having a consistent (and FAST) turnaround time, consistently loving on and surprising your couples, showing up to your sessions 100% ready to serve and so much more. This industry is no longer about just the final images; it is so much more than that.

Consistently showing up in your business will be a game changer, friends. Having pretty pictures is important, but there is so much more to succeeding in this industry than that. What small steps can you take today to start creating more consistency in your business? I’d love to chat with you and help you create goals that will help you cultivate consistency!
