I’ve had a lot of time this week to simply rest. Yes, I am aware that I just had eye surgery and rest is about all I can do this week, but that’s besides the point. When is the last time that you took a few moments to rest? When is the last time that you had a few minutes to yourself or did something just for you?
These days it’s all about hustle. It’s all about how much you can pack into your schedule so that you can make the most money, have the most sessions and be the most successful. It’s a common misconception that in order to be “successful,” we have to constantly be busy. But honestly, that’s the best way to burn ourselves out. We as creatives need a creative outlet (ironic, I know) where we can enjoy ourselves without a deadline, or without client expectations. That’s where rest comes in.
Rest can be defined as “cease work or movement in order to relax, refresh oneself, or recover strength” according to google. 🙂 It’s not necessarily sitting on the couch all day and watching Netflix or taking afternoon naps. It’s finding that one thing that restores your strength, allows you to relax and refresh your heart, soul and mind.
It is okay to hit pause, step back and BREATHE. We were not created to be constantly working, although as a small business owner, it sure feels like it! I encourage you this week, whether you are a business owner, a businessman or a student, to take a step back and breath. Learn how to rest, and how to rest in the Lord’s presence. It will be the best part of your day, and the part that reaps the most benefits.
On another (related) note, I’ve literally been resting all week and it has been great. There’s part of me that feels guilty for not being at work, but the other part of me says, “it’s okay. It’s okay to take time for yourself.” My surgery went well and I should be good to go in a few days. I have healing black eyes and my lids are a little puffy, but other than that i’m the same old me, renewed and refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the year.
With joy,
Kelsie
