I’m going to be honest with you. I complete forgot about today’s post until last night at 11:35, which is already 35 minutes passed my bedtime. Even though I was all ready for bed so that I could wake up bright and early in the morning, I stayed up late last night to finish it. Why? Because blogging is important to me, and to my business. So many photographers have blogs, but not everyone utilizes it in the same way. However, a few of the very successful photographers that I have met and follow have told me this: Blog! Blog! Blog! At the beginning of the summer, I committed to blogging at least 2-3 times a week. So far, I’ve met or exceeded that goal!Β It is one of the most important aspects of my business, and I’m going to share why:
1) My blog lets you get to know me a little bit better. I use my blog as a platform to share my heart, and showcase my personality. As I’ve shared numerous times before, My brand is just as much about me as it is about my pictures. My clients need to love me as a person, just as much as they love my pictures. My goal for all social media, whether it’s my Instagram, Facebook or blog, is that anyone who reads my content will feel like they know me. They can follow along on this journey of mine and get excited when fun things are happening and be supportive when things maybe aren’t going so well. Ideally, I want my future clients feel like they already know before we speak on the phone for the first time. I know that’s a big goal, but blogging is the best way for me to do that.
2) Blogging consistently allows me to share content, whether it is part of my portfolio or tips for my clients. I aim to provide something valuable for my readers, something that’s going to encourage them or make their heart happy. For example, by blogging in my Wedding Wednesday series, I can share some of my favorite images from past weddings, while also creating new content. Basically, it’s a win-win: My readers are getting something new, while I’m sharing some of the oldies but goodies π
3) Consistent blogging shows potential clients that I am open for business. Have you ever heard the comparison that your website is like your store front? And unless it’s consistently being updated, it looks like the lights are out. And no one wants to go into a dark, empty store, right?? By blogging consistently, I’m saying to the world, “Come on in! I’m here and ready to serve you. Welcome!” Because my blog is constantly pushing out new content, I am just maintaining the “store” until my clients stop in.
There are a variety of other reasons why I blog, and I would love to share them with you sometime. However, if you are curious as to whether or not it really works, I promise you it does!! I’ve gotten so many emails and inquiries from my blogs, and my website traffic has increased tremendously. The more traffic that you can drive to your site, the more business you will have.
If you are a small business owner and have any questions about blogging, I would love to chat with you! Just stop by the contact tab and say hello π
With joy,
Kelsie
