So often as photographers, we are defined by who we are as a person. There’s such an emphasis on having the perfect personality, the perfectly curated Instagram and a completely booked schedule. However these pressures from our industry often do more harm than good. I understand the importance of having a strong brand presence that’s tied to the photographer personally (because that’s how I choose to market my business!). But so often we find ourselves believing that it is our true identity. We believe that we are defined by the success of our business, and that simply is just not true. You are so much more than that!

By finding your identity in God, you can find your true self. You no longer have to worry about your performance or the opinions of others. God doesn’t create worthless art, for he creates masterpieces. “For we are god’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago” Ephesians 2:10. Friends, please don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! The Lord created you and me perfectly imperfect. He knows our flaws and he loves us anyway. He knows the desires of our hearts and has plans for our lives that will far outweigh anything that we could want for ourselves. He knows what our strengths are and wants us to use that to Glorify his name. We are masterpieces in the making.

You are not defined by your number of followers, how many times you’ve been published or whether or not your schedule is full. While those things are indicators of the health of your business, your identity is in no way tied to them. You are a daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, girlfriend, photographer, student, etc. but the most important title you have is child of God. While other worldly titles can easily come and go, being a Child is something that can never be taken from you. How reassuring is that?? Know that you are covered in grace and that nothing in this world can affect your true identity, the only one that matters.
