This is a question that I get allllll the time…. what happens if it rains on my wedding day? Well first of all, it’s important to remember that rain on your wedding day is actually good luck! It’s not something that you should be scared about.
This is one of the benefits of hiring a professional photographer. The ability to still create beautiful images despite inclement weather comes with a lot of experience!
Over the year’s I’ve collected wayyyy too many clear umbrellas in the event that it rains. Thankfully, I’ve only had to use them a few times but they are a great option if it’s only lightly raining & you’re will to brave the weather for the cute shots.
If I know that the weather is going to be iffy, I’ll make sure to arrive to the venue extra early to scout locations that have overhangs or porches. This will allow us to still achieve the natural light look but you’ll stay nice and dry!
It’s also important to be flexible. This means that our timeline may need to shift around based on when it is or isn’t raining. The bride and groom portraits are a priority when it comes to natural light portraits, so if it stops raining when we’re supposed to be taking family formals, I may ask that we shift the timeline slightly so that I can take the bride and groom outside for a few minutes.
Knowing that your photographer always has a backup plan should hopefully ease your mind about the risk of rain on your wedding day! At the end of the day, you’ve hired a vendor team that’s there to serve you. It’s our problem to solve, not yours! Either way, we’ll still be able to capture portraits that are unique to your wedding story.
