Have you heard about this new trend of picking a word to focus on in the new year? If not, I’d love to tell you a little bit about it and why YOU should choose a word for the new year!
First of all, take some time to reflect on 2019. What went well? What didn’t go so well? What were some of your greatest struggles? What goals did you knock out of the park and which goals fell by the wayside? Did you learn anything about yourself? What areas did you grow? What was the Lord trying to teach you?
Now, switch your thoughts to a forward-looking perspective. What are your goals for 2020? Who do you want to be present in your life next year? What areas do you still need to grow? Is the Lord trying to teach you about something specific?
Okay great. Now that you’ve done alllllll of that, it’s time to break out the dictionary!! I encourage you to write down several words that come to mind when you think about 2020. Don’t limit yourself to just one small piece of your life like your business or your family. Write it all down no matter how good or relevant the word seems. Here are a few words that I considered: joy, grace, trust, surrender, faith, inspire, grow, hustle, and abide.
Once you have a list, look up synonyms in the dictionary. Look up the definitions of the words. Maybe even look up the words in the reference section of the bible and see what verses come up.
Take some time to reflect & pray about what to focus on in 2020. I love picking a word because it doesn’t keep me boxed into one specific goal. I can simply have something I want to focus on and everything else can align with it.
Okay you’re probably wondering, what’s your word for 2020, Kelsie?! My word for this year is BALANCE. I chose this word for a few reasons, however, overall I just crave balance in every area of my life – emotionally, spiritually, mentally, physically, etc.
Over the past few years, I hustled my little heart out to the point where I’ve forgotten how to rest, I wasn’t taking care of my body and I was neglecting my mental & spiritual health. 2020 is the year that I decided, no more! This is the year where I’m going to be try my best to find the right balance for me & my life. A balance that is healthy and one that allows me to accomplish my goals.
Alrighty, friends! If you have a word for 2020, tell me below! I’d love to hear what you decided on and why. I’m cheering for you this year!
