The KLP Portrait Location Guide

Let the planning begin! After photographing in & around Columbus for the past 8 years, I have found some incredible locations for my clients. Some of these areas are well known photo locations while others are my favorite hidden gems. In this guide, you'll find everything from urban locations, to grassy fields and manicured gardens. Take a few minutes to browse through the sample photos at each location and let me know what matches your vision for your session. If there's more than one spot that you can't decide between, let me know & I'd be happy to make a recommendation on what would work best. No matter the location, we'll create some beautiful images. I can't wait to work with you!

Urban Locations

If you're looking for sleek lines, interesting architecture & epic views, check out a few of my favorite urban locations around Columbus.

Downtown Columbus

Downtown Columbus has a LOT to offer. I have a few favorite parking garage rooftops we can explore or we can explore the streets and find unique textures, walls and patterns

German Village

Filled with brick streets and cute houses, german village is great for that small-town, cozy feel. I usually recommend that we meet at the Book Loft and then start exploring from there.

Downtown Granville

Filled with cute storefronts, lots of staircases, colorful walls & more, this area east of Columbus is perfect with a small town feel.

Scioto Mile

The best part about the Scioto Mile is that there are 2 sides... one that is a little bit more modern with concrete & steel, and another that is a little more classic with marble and iron railings. You can get both casual and fancy in one session!

Short North

If you're looking for fun murals, brick walls and lots of color, then the Short North is perfect for you. There's even a garage rooftop if you want a mixture of a skyline view & different colored walls.

OSU

The Ohio State University campus provides gorgeous urban and modern setting options, including the stadium (or "Shoe")... offering unique artwork.

Uptown Westerville

This quaint little town is cozy & cute. There are a lot of different walls to choose from and the store fronts make great backdrops, too. We can venture into the nearby neighborhoods as well for a little bit more variety or get ice cream (my favorite part about this spot)!

New Albany High School

Filled with beautiful brick buildings, large white pillars, and amazing greenery/nature accents. The black rod iron gate and stairs help provide so many posing options. The stadium is also a great neutral option if you're looking for bleachers & turf but don't want to use your home field.

Downtown Canal Winchester

This quaint area provides old world charm, several brick buildings, along with gorgeous shuttered windows. The trains provide a great pop of color and the tracks offer something fun and unique.

Downtown New Albany

New Albany is known for it's red brick architecture & white fences, and this area of town certainly does not disappoint! Filled with lots of brick & white walls, this area is close to Rose Run Park & New Albany High School.

Garden Locations

If you're looking for colorful blooms, a manicured garden and lots of lush greenery, check out a few of my favorite gardens. These are some of my very favorite places to shoot around Columbus because they make for beautifully composed portraits!

Franklin Park Conservatory

This may or may not be my #1 portrait location in Columbus... I just love it so much! The manicured gardens in the Community Gardens are beautiful & there are so many amazing spots for lots of variety.

Inniswood Metro Gardens

This is Columbus's most popular park for photos... there are always SO MANY photographers, and for good reason! There's lots of variety and it's beautiful, especially during peak fall.

Park of Roses

This park is filled with roses & fountains and is usually in it's peak during June. Located in Clintonville, it's a great central location!

Wooded Park Locations

If you're looking for a naturey backdrop, there are plenty of great options around Columbus. There are all trees, bridges and beautiful colors, especially during the fall.

Highbanks Metro Park

Tucked into the back of the park is a creek area that's accessible when it hasn't been raining heavily. It's my favorite place in Columbus to frolic around in the water.

Hoover Dam

One of Columbus's most unique locations due to the pine tree forest. There's also opportunities for hiking to the waterfront, sunset photos over the field or a slightly more urban feel on the dam. We'll meet by the Brent Hambrick Memorial Disc Golf Course.

Rocky Fork Metro Park

Located near Westerville/New Albany, this small park is perfect for a quick session and is my favorite during the fall! Lots of beautiful fall foliage with wispy fields.

Alum Creek

Alum Creek's large reservoir and gently rolling span of fields and woodlands provides a dream come true to any nature lover.

Blendon Woods

This beautiful metro park contains spectacular stream-cut ravines with exposed ripple rock sandstone and open fields surrounded by beech-maple and oak-hickory forests.

Over the years I have been able to find a few rustic-looking locations around Columbus, and a few aren't even that far out of town.

Rustic Locations

Everal Barn & Homestead

Located in Westerville, this park has a lot to offer including a big white & red brick barn, a small pond and a weeping willow tree.

Homestead Park

If you're looking for a flower field, a white barn, beautiful bridge or a pond, Homestead Park in Hilliard is the place to go! So much variety all within walking distance.

Slate Run Metro Park

This park is perfect for those who love country. It's filled with fields, boardwalks and a rustic covered bridge.

Lynd's Fruit Farm

Known for it's fun fall activities, Lynd's is the perfect place for a session with the sunflowers. Additional entrance & photography fees may apply depending on the day & time. Sunflowers are usually available in August & September but vary from year to year.

Grassy Field Locations

Grassy fields during golden hour are one of my favorite ways to end a session. There's just something about the golden light gracing the top of the field that just makes it magical!

Scioto Audubon Metro Park

The boardwalk area at Scioto Audubon is GORGEOUS during golden hour. Another perk of this location is that you have a nice view of the skyline!

Scioto Grove Metro Park

Located in Grove City, this park is 100% worth the drive because of the rolling fields & the way the sun glows during golden hour. There's also a pond area for some variety.

Sharon Woods Metro Park

Located in Westerville, this park has a little bit of everything! I like to start my sessions at Schrock Lake by the pier, and then move into the field and wooded areas.

Quarry Trails Metropark

Located on the West side of Columbus, this is a hidden gem with cliffs, waterfalls, fields, woods and more!

Being able to use public locations like the Museum of Art and the Library has always been a favorite of mine.

Public Locations

Located in downtown Columbus Columbus Museum of Art has beautiful architecture and creativity all around.

Columbus Museum of Art

Library Main Branch is great for use natural lighting in a big space. I love it for our cap and gown sessions.

City Park Locations

If you don't want to venture too far out of the city or are just looking for a central location, there are plenty of great locations downtown!

Jeffery Mansion

Located in Bexley, Jeffery Mansion boasts beautiful red brick, detailed architecture and vibrant colors in the fall. It's less than 5 minutes from Franklin Park Conservatory and is a great option for someone looking for German village vibes without driving downtown.

Creekside Park

This beautiful five-acre park is the centerpiece of historic Olde Gahanna. Best known for its lovely waterfall, the park offers winding walkways along Big Walnut Creek.

Goodale Park

Mature trees & a beautiful pond make this a great central location. It's especially popular in the spring when the Magnolia trees are in bloom.

Schiller Park

Located in the heart of German Village, this is a great option for those who want a mix of urban & a beautiful green space.

Genoa Park

Located along the west bank of the Scioto River, Genoa Park provides all the cityscape views anyone could ask for.

Bridge Park

A gorgeous new suspension bridge, located just 15 minutes northwest of downtown, providing views of charming old Dublin on one side, and brand new urban sights on the other.

Rose Run

Located in the heart of New Albany, this small park boasts a wooded walking trail, a creek, beautiful brick bridge and more!

Studio Locations

Studio locations are a great option for lifestyle branding sessions. You're guaranteed to have great light & don't have to worry about finding an empty table at a coffee shop.
Rental fees range from $40-$100 hour for studio locations

The Millennial Suite

This spacious studio provides an open concept with beautiful white/brown distressed exposed brick
along with bright windows that feature natural sunlight from both the south side and west side of High street.

Haven Collective

Located in downtown Columbus, this unique space offers lots of color options and great lighting.

The Que Studio

Located in downtown Columbus, this unique space offers lots of great natural light (both soft & direct), brick walls, neutral backdrops & a variety of couches/seating options.
